STEP OUT
Empowered Parenting is Just a Walk in the Park
(for multi-tasking parents)
Start the summer with parenting "walks and talks" in Sharon Woods to strengthen yourself while you find solutions to parenting concerns that will strengthen your family. Do you wonder "What was my daughter thinking?" or "I can’t believe my son did THAT! " or "They never listen to me"? Work with our parenting experts along with other parents to discover answers that are RIGHT for your family.
Date/Time: Mondays, June 9 – July 7, 7:00 – 8:30 PM

STEP FORWARD
Transitions (for parents of children of all ages)
New routines and schedules; starting or changing schools; new family situations – transitions are part of everyday life. Learn to work with your child’s unique reactions and expectations to help him/her embrace, or at least adapt easily to, life’s many changes. Let’s pack our backpacks with transition strategies and step it forward.

STEP INTO STEPPARENTING
(for new or experienced parents/stepparents)
Learn to help your stepfamily avoid the pitfalls and meet the challenges unique to stepfamily living. You will learn new strategies to build a powerful parenting team for children of all ages. Topics include merging different values and cultures, understanding loyalty conflicts, coping with loss, and reducing power struggles.

Dates: Tuesdays, June 17 – July 22

Step into Preschool
Music, Crafts and Storytime (for ages 2 & 3 years)
Children meet new friends and engage in creative learning through songs, games, stories and art projects. And they have a blast playing at the rice table. Miss Deborah also finds the time to do easy yoga exercises with the children! This class is a great opportunity for your child to learn how to gently separate from you. A snack is provided.

Date: Thursdays, June 5 – July 10 or July 17 – Aug 21

STEP SAFELY
Yello Dyno Safety Program (for ages 3 to 7 years)
This program empowers young children with the skills needed to avoid dangerous situations and to protect themselves when their safety is challenged. Using music and hands-on activities, a foot stompin’, tail thumpin’ dinosaur will teach your child about the tricks of "Tricky People," how to yell for help and what to do if they become lost.

Dates: Fridays, June 20, July 18, or Aug. 15

Getting to know the Mack leaders:

Jackie Drake, MSW, LISW
Jackie Drake has joined the staff of Family Life Education and the Alan R. Mack Center as Education Coordinator.  She is a Licensed Independent Social Worker with 25 years of experience working with children and families in a variety of settings.  Jackie was previously a Parent Enrichment Coordinator and Family Life Educator for Beech Acres.  In addition to leading parenting classes, Jackie is facilitating a step-parenting group and new educational support groups for children

Shari Goldsmith, MSW
Shari Goldsmith is currently a clinical therapist at Jewish Family Service. She works with all age groups through the life cycle. Shari has over 20 years of experience teaching skills for healthy self-esteem, stress management, conflict resolution, communication and problem-solving.

Erin McNew, MSW
Erin McNew, a mother of three, is the Program Coordinator of the Alan R. Mack Parents Center. She joined Jewish Family Service with several years experience facilitating groups for parents and children of all ages.  Most recently she has worked with children with acute psychiatric needs in an inpatient setting.  Over the years Erin had taught many parent education groups at Mack Parents Center on topics including raising a highly sensitive child, increasing your child’s emotional intelligence, and coping with sibling rivalry.
