event highlights the power of the human spirit. “A Light Unto the Future” honors
attorney Stanley M. Chesley for his work over many decades
to seek justice and restitution for Holocaust survivors in our community and
worldwide. Serving as pro bono legal counsel, Mr. Chesley has secured billions of dollars in international
settlements for their losses by Nazi persecution.

Stanley M. Chesley
is
the President and principal of Waite, Schneider, Bayless & Chesley Co., L.P.A.
His undergraduate degree is from the University of Cincinnati and he is a 1960
graduate of the University of Cincinnati College of Law. Mr. Chesley is a
leading trial attorney in some of the nation’s most significant and notable
cases. For his innovation and outstanding achievements, he has been recognized
in The Best Lawyers in America as one of the nation’s preeminent
litigators for over 15 years and top rated lawyer in Ohio Super Lawyer.
He has served or currently serves on a number of national boards, and is
presently the National President of the Jewish National Fund.
We will be specifically honoring Mr.
Chesley’s role in helping the Holocaust community here in Cincinnati and
worldwide.
Mr. Chesley served as Pro bono legal counsel
(from 1998 to present) to the Conference on Jewish Material Claims Against
Germany, the World Jewish Restitution Organization and the World Jewish Congress
on Holocaust restitution issues, including the In re: Holocaust Victims’
Assets (Swiss Banks) Litigation, the In re: German and Austrian Banks
Holocaust Litigation, Rosner v. United States (Hungarian Gold Train)
Litigation, the German Economic Foundation Initiative – “Remembrance,
Responsibility and the Future,” and the Austrian Funds – “Reconciliation, Peace
and Cooperation” and General Settlement Fund, which have collectively provided
between $8 and $10 billion in restitution to, and compensation for, Holocaust
survivors. At the 2000 Annual Meeting of the Claims Conference, he was
recognized for his outstanding work on behalf of Holocaust survivors with the
award of a shofar.
